Tips for Driving on Wet Roads

For the sake of yourself, everyone that loves you, and everyone else on the road and everyone that loves them- and me- please drive safely (or not at all) in the rain!

1- DRIVE SLOWLY IN THE RAIN- this prevents hydroplaning. Many times, roads are more slick when it first starts to rain (or if it hasn't rained in a while) because the oils on the road are brought up with the water- it takes a while for them to wash away. Don't use cruise control!
2- Don't follow closely- it takes longer to stop when your brakes are wet
3- Don't use cruise contol.
4- Especially watch out for high traffic, low speed areas like entrance/exit ramps, intersections, toll booths... apparently there is lots of car fluids in these areas so it's extra slippery
5- Keep your tires in good condition this includes keeping the right amount of air pressure in them (check before trips and weekly) and replacing them at proper times.
6- IF YOU HYDROPLANE- steer straight, take your foot off the gas, and wait until you regain traction. Generally, if you're going over 30, you can easily hydroplane. Then, if the road is very smooth, slick or the water is deeper, it can happen at slower speeds.
7- The best thing to do is slow down in the rain. Leave yourself plenty of room to stop in an emergency and don't make sudden movements (like accelerating too fast or turning too abruptly)

This is a compilation from very trustworthy websites that I googled and wikipediaed.
