Let's start with sucky parts:
1. Photo enforced intersections- luckily there are only a few of these, Not-so-luckily, they are intersections I drive through often. Not that I run red lights all the time, but it freaks me out- I'm more likely to slam on the brakes when it turns yellow and cause an accident that way than run a red light and get hit now. grr.
2. Birds- I think every bird in the city lives in my apt complex. I have never been pooped on before I moved here- I'm up to 3 times currently. Since the pool is surrounded by trees, it makes for a very dirty pool...
3. Humidity/ Hot- I'm still struggling with the humidity- but it's not nearly as bad as I expected.
And all the many reasons why I love it:
1. Beaches- tons of them everywhere- free and super close! The sand is like powder on the island (my favorite beach).
2. Water- the water here is nice- clear (enough), not full of disgustingness. Out past the sand bars and shallow water- the color is a beautiful blue-green. Plus, its everywhere!
3. There is always a nice breeze coming off the water so I can lay out in the sun for hours and not get too hot (hence the insane sunburn right now)
4. Dolphins. Walk out on a number of the jetties or piers and see lots of dolphins playing in the water. They come up close to you and you don't have to look very hard to find them.
5. Crabs/ Birds... I had to put them on here because I spent yesterday and today lying on the beach watching the birds try to catch crabs and fish or whatever they eat. Then watching crabs come out of hiding and rebuild their little home- throwing sand, and running to hide at any movement.
6. The people- I thought it was a fluke, but it keeps happening- people are nice everywhere you go (except church). People talk to you everywhere you go instead of ignoring you or being rude- it's great!
7. Eats- there aren't a lot of chains here (ok, it has fast food, but not all the real restaurants) but lots of local places- I love that!
8. Shopping- although there is no Ulta, it has everything else I need here that Midland didn't have- including the most ghetto Burlington I've ever been to in my life, Marshall's, Half Price Books...
9. Other Free stuff- they have free concerts on Thursday nights and free movie night on Fridays at an amphitheater on the beach- just bring lawn chairs! Free or not, there is actually stuff to do here when people come to visit (besides movies and eating)- so come visit me!
10. It's really close to San Antonio, my favorite place (only 2 hours) and sort of close to South Padre (the most amazing beach in TX).
11. My allergies haven't bothered me at all since I've been here. A-Mazing!
