A Life and Death Struggle for Freedom

Here are some great quotes from a great book, "Common Sense" by Glenn Beck. It's a quick/ easy read (only 100 pages- the end is some historical stuff) for just 8 bucks ($7.54 at Sam's) if you're interested.
  • "They (those we elected in government) have set our house on fire and blocked the exits, all the while convincing us that there is nothing to fear because they are the fire department. When will someone cry out with the truth? They're not our saviors, they're the arsonists. They're not rescuing our country; they're destroying it."
  • "Unfortunately, there are many in WA who understand that honest debates will pull back the curtain on the scam they've been perpetuating. They promise transparency but instead deliver ten-thousand page legislative bills that must be passed before being read or fully understood. They promise openness, but then move quickly, under cover of darkness to further their agendas."

  • "This isn't a debate about money, it's a life-and-death struggle for personal freedom and national liberty."
  • On taxes and the tax code: "If you're a friend to those in power and fail to pay your taxes, it's considered a simple oversight and you move on to become secretary of the treasury (Timothy Geithner). But if you're considered hostile to those in power then the same mistake will be used to destroy your reputation...example...Joe the Plumber... Do you think it's purely coincidence that MLK, Jr. was targeted as a tax cheat or that both Jesse Owens and Joe Louis were investigated for tax-code violation after they spoke out against the government? A complex and confusing tax code is a weapon that can be used to intimidate enemies... and punish the innocent but politically unpopular person... while rewarding friends with exemptions, deductions, and individualized loopholes."
  • "Isn't it amazing that the law does not require one human being to save another human being from injury or death? If you see a stranger, or even a relative, drowning in a pool, the law doesn't impose any obligation on you to save them, even if you could do so without any risk to yourself. Yet the same legal system requires you, under threat of penalty, to recycle, to avoid letting your car idle, and to put CFL bulbs with poisonous mercury into your homes- all to save the environment. Common sense tells us that any legal system based on such grotesquely misplaced priorities is one that cannot endure for long."
